I wasn’t sure what to blog about at first, but I guess I’ll talk a bit about what’s going on at the moment. It’s about 6:00 AM PST. My sister’s off to go camping, my mother’s getting ready for work, and earlier I read probably one of the only modern pieces of literature that I can stand lately – The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks.

I just finished Chapter 48 and I have to say that the story is absolutely amazing. I’ll just say that Brent Weeks isn’t afraid to abuse or kill his characters, and certain things happen to some characters that really do get you. The characters are unforgettable, and a friend who has already finished the “Night Angel Trilogy“ has told me that a lot of the characters come back, if they haven’t died yet. I’m very picky about what I read. Usually I love older things or classics, but some…SORT of recent books do catch my attention (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the His Dark Materials trilogy, if those count as “recent”). With Twilight and lots … a few other … not so good in my opinion “paranormal”, “magical”, “demonic” and “vampire” novels out there, I feared that the newer generation of writers did not produce anything good. (In fact, since I heard of the hype of Twilight…it encouraged me even more so to become a writer. If that CRAP can be popular, then surely something I write can be published!) I should have known better – I wasn’t looking at the “fantasy” section of writing. Brent Weeks seriously gives me hope for the future of writing compared to the Stephenie Meyer crap out there. I always did like Fantasy more than “Modern Fantasy” stuff.

Nah, seriously though, his world is very interesting. Lots of terms that you begin to understand as the series goes on, and lots of different places and races. And like I said, the characters are unforgettable. My favorite used to be Durzo Blint, a wetboy (think an advanced assassin that always gets their target..Oh, and they can use magic) with OCD, paranoia, and a love for garlic. But now, my favorite has to be Dorian, a prophet and a “meister” (magic user) that is friends with two other magic users, Feir and Solon. Their conversation together makes the story ever so amusing. You’ll find great puns and lots of different jokes throughout this serious story. But I warn you – it isn’t for little kids. The themes are pretty intense. They aren’t necessarily perverted, but there are a lot of older “jokes” and themes, and a lot of the stuff in here can get brutal.

But, you guys should definitely look for it. It’s SO worth the read.

Oh? What? You want a quick summary of what the book is about?

It’s about a boy named Azoth – a boy who lives on the streets – who becomes Durzo Blint’s (a wetboy, as I explained earlier) apprentice and leaves behind his whole life, and what he goes through. A wetboy’s life isn’t easy, especially for someone like Azoth – renamed Kylar Stern – who is apparently very very special.

How is he special? You have to read to find out.

If you go to Brent Weeks’s website, you’ll be able to learn about the author himself and read the back of the book’s cover. You even get to read the first chapter (out of sixty-six) of the first book itself.

So yeah, I guess that’s it for now everyone. Not sure how else to conclude this other than with this message – GO READ THE NIGHT ANGEL TRILOGY BY BRENT WEEKS. The Way of Shadows, Shadow’s Edge, and Beyond the Shadows. Pick them up right now. I’m sure you guys won’t be disappointed at all.

Me? What will I be doing? Just browsing the rest of the Internet and YouTube for now until I get tired. Maybe Tweet (Yes this leads to my Twitter – what of it? ) or Facebook a bit. Maybe I’ll read some more or brainstorm some things for a story, comic, or character of mine. We’ll see.
